Thani Oruvan Review :-

PLOT :-

Mithran IPS (Jayam Ravi) who is hell bent on eradicating evil for good, meets his strongest target till date in Siddarth Abimanyu (Arvind Samy), Can he defeat him or is Siddarth just too powerful to stop, forms the rest of the story.

PERFORMANCES :-

JAYAM RAVI AS MITHRAN - I wish to see of more of this type of films from Ravi, he takes some time to settle in his role comfortably, his uneasiness can be felt in the initial scenes of the first half but after he settles he packs a punch in his truly most memorable role since Peranmani. He has the weight, he has the height, he has the muscle power and enough screen presence to stand head to head even with an highly experienced actor like Arvind Samy .
ARVIND SAMY AS SIDDARTH ABIMANYU - Arvind has mostly been stereotyped as a chocolate boy ever since his debut in Roja . However that's just past now, now with the release of Thani Oruvan, Arvind has projected his unexplored skills for the audience with some of the best underplayed expressions and body langue ever for a powerful villain till date .
THAMBI RAMAIYA AS SENGALVARAYAN - Its been ages since we saw Thambi
Ramaih striking best with his timing, I guess the last time we saw him like that was way back in Myna, this time though the role is innocent yet so so humorous and important to the script .

OTHERS - There are plenty of supporting actors in the film who did fine in their roles, especially the ones who played Sooraj & Jaana we're so sincere even with the limited screen time .

TECHNICALITIES :-

CINEMATOGRAPHY BY RAMJI - Kudos for Ramji's lighting work in the film, each scene gets its own intense feel with the changing appropriate color tones .
EDITING is fine

MUSIC BY HIPHOP TAMIZHA AADI
Just like his previous album, Thani Oruvan has well composed songs and power packed classy background score . Kannala song set in a watered background is so exotic, while its a good decision to show other songs as montages rather than wasting money on lavish sets and unnecessary visual effects .

WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY MOHAN RAJA :-

At the first glimpse, it looked like Raja was trying out another just another poor boy becomes a sincere policeman story, but some twists he gave to the usual narrative format is what makes Thani Oruvan superior to other good vs evil stories . I just have one doubt, when Raja has potential to make such unique films, why did he restrict himself to remakes all these years . Seriously, Raja has set a new standard for Indian Cinema . Especially the way he designed characterizations for both Ravi & Arvind Samy was perfect with their battle being neck to neck from start to finish . Not just that, even the smaller supporting actors are given roles that are very important to the film . On the downside, the film's dialogues in 1st half are often over dramatic leaving the audience little uncomfortable but once Arvind Samy enters the frame, everything is fine  .
