Puli Review :-

Before I begin, Kudos to RC Kamalakannan for rendering some decent CGI for Puli within the short span of time, truly commendable . Art Direction and costume design was nice . 

But the real problem is the casting, weak characters, the film's uninteresting screenplay & Chimbudevan's careless direction

For instance the roles of Pulikesi & Ukraputhran in Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikeesi (English : The King of torture, Pulikesi The 23rd, Telugu : Himsinche 23 Va Raju Pulikesi) were tailor made roles for an actor like Vadivelu so there was no problem . But Vijay is a commercial hero who has been doing roles without much variation in the last few years . So when it comes to an Fantasy film, he can't perform well unless Chimbudevan helps him get into the skin of his character . 

Vijay is left helpless with no Idea about how he should emote, so he had to do the same thing that he has been doing for years, same body language, and a failed voice modulation .  

Others in the cast are no different, Starting from veteran actress Sridevi to Hansika, Shruthi Haasan, Sathyan, Prabhu etc. have given mediocre performance . The only exception here is Kichcha Sudeep, despite being given a weak role, he is at least trying something within his limits .

Devi Sri Prasad is another big disappointment, the songs (With the exception of Yendi Yendi) have been average and the BGM is horrible . 

Chimbudevan is possibly the biggest disappointment in this film, his last few films despite being not so big hits had a brilliant script and above average execution but here the script is weakly developed despite having a decent storyline . And The budget is 16 times higher than his earlier films, so obviously the pressure is also much higher, and Chimbudevan has ended up giving the weakest film of his career . A wasted opportunity overall . 

To conclude this short review, Puli was expected to be India's John Carter but turns out be a Lone Ranger kinda film which despite having a huge budget and a star like Johnny Deep was a colossal disaster both content wise and commercially too .
