PLOT :-
Surya (Allu Arjun) is a soldier whose anger management issues gets him thrown out of the Indian army. His only chance to re-enter is to get certified clean by a Psychology professor "Ramakrishna Raju" (Arjun Sarja) who also happens to be Surya's estranged Father.
PERFORMANCES :-
Allu Arjun as Surya has given his best performance since Vedam. In comparison Surya is a more physically exhausting role, Allu Arjun has to be commended for taking up a character driven content film at the peak of his career. His combination scenes with Arjun were the best part of the film. While Sai Kumar, Vennala Kishore also make their presence felt in brief roles.
TECHNICALITIES :-
Though the story has a Vizag connect, Naa Peru Surya is more of a Pan-Indian film.Getting famed cinematographer Rajeev Ravi and Musicians Duo Vishal-Shekhar on board helped in adding lot of zing to the film.
SCRIPT AND DIRECTION :-
Vakkantham Vamsi has an interesting script but also has an identity crisis which is largely because of Vamsi's inexperience as a director. The above dialogue from the trailer is the main theme of Naa Peru Surya, the film was worth watching because Vamsi has managed to execute this portion really well. Though the idea is inspired from Nagarjuna's Tamil film Ratchagan, Vamsi's take on adapting and adjusting is different. Does our attempt to change really make us a better person ? (or) Do we end up losing our individuality to please those around us ?
On the downside, whatever I lauded about the film happens in the 2nd act only, the problem is Vamsi isn't clear about how to start and end this film. We get a glorified Teluguish intro for our indisciplined soldier Surya where he goes berserk after someone makes him angry. The movie is also stretched towards the end after the misplaced Iraga Iraga song as Vamsi goes overboard in patriotism despite making few valid statements.
THUMBS UP :-
Allu Arjun's characterization
Allu Arjun & Arjun's combination scenes
Emotions
Music
Cinematography
THUMBS DOWN :-
Length
Incoherent Direction
Naa Peru Surya could have become a classic If the same script was helmed by an experienced director like Krish Jagarlamudi. Still the self realization portion and performances make Naa Peru Surya a watchable affair.
